TWAS-ICCBS Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, Pakistan

Job Description: For young scientists from developing countries (other than Pakistan) who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine, pharmacology or physical chemistry at the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) — comprising the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular and Drug Research, Karachi, Pakistan.

Important: The following is additional information concerning the TWAS-ICCBS Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme tenable in Pakistan. It is an integral part of the information given here:TWAS Fellowships for Postdoctoral Research.
Applicants should be aware that they can apply for only one fellowship per year. With the exception of the fellowships “for research collaboration”, all other fellowship programmes offered by TWAS and TWOWS that are mutually exclusive.

Programme Details

* TWAS-ICCBS Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) – comprising the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular and Drug Research, www.iccs.edu – for a minimum period of six months to a maximum period of twelve months in the following fields: organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine, pharmacology or physical chemistry.
* ICCBS will provide a monthly stipend which should be used to cover living costs such as food, accommodation and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.
* The language of instruction is English.

Eligibility

Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:

* be a maximum age of 45 years on 31 December of the year of application;
* hold a PhD degree in a field of natural sciences;
* be nationals of a developing country (other than Pakistan);
* be regularly employed in a developing country (other than Pakistan) and hold a research assignment there;
* provide a certificate of good health from a qualified medical doctor;
* provide an official Acceptance Letter from the supervisor or head of department at ICCBS (see sample Acceptance Letter included in the application form). Requests for acceptance must be directed to the Director of ICCBS, Prof. M. I. Choudhary by e-mail (hej@cyber.net.pk or pcmd@cyber.net.pk) who will facilitate the assignment of a host supervisor. In contacting Prof. Choudhary applicants must accompany their request for a preliminary acceptance letter with copy of their CV and a research proposal outline;
* provide evidence of proficiency in English.

Submitting your application

* The deadline for receipt of applications is 30 June each year.
* Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from ICCBS when applying, or by the deadline at the latest. Without preliminary acceptance the application will not be considered for selection
* Reference letters: Referees must send signed letters as attachments via e-mail directly to TWAS. The subject line must contain: ICCBS/PDoc/candidate’s surname. Alternatively, letters can be sent by post in sealed envelopes.
* Applicants to the TWAS-ICCBS Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme should send one copy of their application to TWAS only (by email or post). Please do not send a copy to ICCBS.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS),Pakistan

Job Description: Sheffield Hallam University participates in the CSSS Scheme and welcomes applications from students for this prestigious award. The award covers tuition fees, living and travel costs for the duration of a Masters course.
Four CSSS scholarships are available for the academic year 2010/11 (September intake). The deadline for applications is 01 May 2010

Eligibility of candidates

To meet Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) eligibility criteria, candidates must

* be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a Commonwealth developing country, and not be currently living or studying in a developed country
* hold a first degree at either first or upper second class level
* be sufficiently fluent in English to pursue the course
* have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country
* not be employed by a government department (at national level) or a fully/partially state-owned corporation/government agency (employees of universities are normally acceptable however)
* be able to confirm in writing that neither they nor their families would otherwise be able to pay for the proposed course of study
Application Deadline Scholarship applications for courses starting in September/October 2010 must be submitted by 30 June 2010.

Scholarship applications for courses starting in January 2011 must be submitted by 30 November 2010.

International Research Support Initiative Program 2010/11,Pakistan

Job Description: Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is offering this six month research fellowship abroad to full time PhD students enrolled in Pakistan to enhance their research capabilities. It is of utmost importance that the doctoral studies carried out in Pakistan are of a standard that is at par with any international reputed institution. This is only possible if candidates are provided with adequate support in research projects. This may be a problem because of the paucity of resources in Pakistan therefore the scheme is helping to provide doctoral students exposure internationally so they could carry out research projects of high standard. The scheme is also assisting ongoing Indigenous PhD programs by providing a mechanism for PhD scholars to travel abroad and conduct research in advanced industrialized countries for a period upto 6 months. This is providing exposure to the PhD scholars which will enhance the quality of research that they will be conducting in Pakistan. It is also serving to develop linkages between Pakistani and foreign institutions.
Eligibility:

Any full time AJK/Pakistani national PhD student:

1. Who has completed at least one year of PhD studies at Public Sector University/ Institution which has adopted HEC guideline for M.Phil and PhD studies while being engaged in thesis related research.
2. Who has an approved PhD research topic and synopsis by the Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) or Directorate of Advanced Studies and Research (DASR) or equivalent body of the university
3. “Who has an official acceptance/invitation letter for research from a foreign university/institute/lab of international repute (Preference will be given to top 500 universities as per Times Ranking of World Universities)”.
4. Those Scholars who are already availing any other HEC scholarship are also eligible to apply provided they submit NOC from their concerned HEC officer.
